St. Clare of Assisi

Virgin · 1194–1253

First foundress of the Order of Poor Ladies (Poor Clares), she followed Saint Francis in a harsh life at Assisi, rich in works of charity and piety. A true lover of poverty, she never allowed herself to be separated from it, even in extreme need and infirmity.
