Solemnity of the chief Apostles. Peter, who first confessed Jesus as the Christ, was crucified head downward on the Vatican; Paul, Apostle of the Gentiles, was beheaded on the Ostian Way. Both proclaimed the Gospel in Rome and suffered martyrdom under Nero.
